Description: Top 18238 Day-Date with very rare blue trapeze index dial.
The case is in excellent unpolished condition. Perfect proportions, razor-sharp edges, and a beautiful matte finish on the top of the case are its distinguishing features. There are signs of wear, but no deep scratches, dents, or anything like that.
The bezel is in the same wonderful condition as the case – unpolished with sharp edges.
The blue dial is an absolute highlight. While common Day-Date dials feature flat rectangular indices, this early 18238 dial is truly unique. The indices are shorter than the later rectangular version, and the indices are trapezoidal in shape.
This index shape and especially the shorter indexes make the dial appear even larger and, above all, the wonderful blue color comes into its own even better
The condition of the dial is also very good, with clear print and a wonderful sunray-cut finish.
The hands are also in very good condition. The patina is a shade lighter than the patina of the lume material on the dial, which this isn’t noticeable in person.
This stunning Day-Date delights its new owner with box and papers. It has been sold in France on November 9, 1991. This is confirmed by the country code stamp LC 110. There is no dealer’s stamp, but that was common back then. People simply didn’t attach much importance to it.
The 8385 President bracelet is fine, with light stretch and a fully intact crown on the clasp. The bracelet has 21 links and, with clasp code O3 for March 1990, is the original bracelet for the watch.
Conclusion: A wonderful Day-Date with a magnificent appearance. In the eight years we’ve been active as the watch guy, we’ve never been able to sell this dial variant ourselves!
