Description: Unpolished Maxi MKV with wonderful charisma in a Dutch full set.
Sometimes you need to be a little lucky in life. I have already offered this great Maxi GMT in 2019 and sold it almost overnight. It was really one of the most beautiful watches in my career as a watch dealer and that’s why it stayed in my memory forever. Meanwhile the buyer added a fine 6265 Big Red to his collection and had to gain some liquidity which led him back to me. Today, I have the fortunate opportunity to present this treasure once again.
The case is in great unpolished vintage condition. As the pictures perfectly show, the proportions are wonderful, the edges are typically wide for the 70s and the matte finish on the top of the case is well present. There are of course signs of wear, but overall it is a wonderfully unpolished vintage case.
By the way and for the vintage specialists: Of course, the blood rinse on the back of the case is completely intact.
The matte MAXI GMT-Master dial is in top condition. This is the MKV version, which of course fits the timing perfectly. As the pictures here also show perfectly, the patina of the lume has taken on a wonderful vanilla tone and combined with the large-area application of lume which is tyypical for the maxi dials, it creates a great overall look.
The hands are original to the watch and dial and are in very good condition. The second hand is a bit brighter, but that is also typical for the time and watch.
The bezel is razor-sharp and the inlay is a great Pepsi inlay with a so-called red back. The colors are slightly faded, have a nice, strong presence and, together with the patina of the lume create a great picture.
This unpolished maxi beauty comes in a great set with box and papers. It has been sold by rolex authorized dealer ELKA in Amsterdam on October 6th, 1978. The scope of delivery is really cool, including the former seller’s business card and the original GMT booklet with ELKA stamp on the back. You just know that nothing was thrown together to make it a full set.
By the way, my customer at the time was smart and took the opportunity to have a reveision on the watch in 2020 at the well-known Rolex concessionaire Depperich in Germany. Neither the case nor the dial or hands were touched. The only thing that has completely been revisioned was the movement and the seals that have been replaced. Invoice and Rolex warranty card are part of the scope of delivery!
Finally, as always, the information about the bracelet and here too a little highlight. The braclet is a 7836 folded bracelet with correct 280 lugs. These bracelet were manufactured until 1976/77 and towards the end of production no longer had a clasp code. Therefore, the bracelet here fits perfectly in time and, in my opinion, is original to the watch. Why highlight? There are few maxis with folded bracelets and the combination is vintage heaven at its best. Condition? See extra picture. Virtually no stretch and minimal signs of wear.
Conclusion: Highlight in the GMT sky. If I didn’t already have a 1675 in my collection with which I have a personal story, you would never find the watch in my offer.
