Fantastic 1803 Day-Date featuring a perfect black dial and an 18-karat gold pin buckle!
The case is in excellent condition. While it has certainly been polished in the past, it retains great proportions, sharp edges and a nice matte finish on the top of the case. There are some signs of a sleeve polish but otherwise only minimal signs of wear.
The quality of an 1803 case is best judged by the gap between the bezel and the winding crown; if a gap is visible—revealing a portion of the case itself—it indicates the case remains in truly excellent condition, which is the case here.
The bezel is also very fine, featuring sharp teeth and minimal signs of wear.
The watch’s highlight is undoubtedly the dial: a truly magnificent matte black dial in perfect condition. The print is wonderfully sharp, all lume dots are intact and the tritium lume has developed a rich, bold patina over time that contrasts beautifully with the black dial.
The hands are equally top, showing off a patina that perfectly complements the dial.
Silver date wheel—featuring a bold print and open 6s and 9s on the date wheel—round out the overall look.
The watch has just received a full movement service from our watchmaker and runs perfect.
The watch comes on its original Rolex crocodile leather strap, which shows only light signs of wear and has plenty of life left in it. The buckle is another small highlight; 99% of Day-Dates on leather straps come with gold-plated buckles—simply because solid gold buckles are virtually impossible to find these days. This watch, however, comes with the original 18-karat gold pin buckle, further enhancing its value.
Conclusion: Black-on-black, 18-karat gold. Perfect with a shirt or a T-shirt.
