Blancpain Fifty Fathoms “No Radiation” Bundeswehr, with Blancpain Heritage service papers.
A magnificent watch that could tell us a story or two. It certainly shows the signs of that history—specifically, the wear and tear from rigorous diving operations by the German Navy’s combat swimmers.
The case clearly reflects this history of active use, yet impresses overall with its excellent condition and appears to be unpolished. The caseback features a perfectly preserved Bundeswehr engraving. I have had the privilege of offering three of these watches previously and the engraving on this particular piece is the best yet. Definitely untouched!
The “No Radiation” dial is a visual beauty, with minor imperfections. The “No Radiation” symbol stands out beautifully with sharp print and excellent color. The zinc sulfide lume material is fully intact and displays a lovely patina.
As is common with these dials, the minute track between the 8 and 9 o’clock positions show some wear, and the “SWISS” print has faded slightly.
The set of hands is, of course, original to the dial and in excellent condition for its age.
The bezel is superb—specifically the original early version featuring darker numerals and 5-minute markers. This is exceptional, as many bezels were replaced over time due to cracking. This example is wonderfully preserved and enhances the watch’s immense charm.
This Blancpain “Bund” comes with comprehensive service documentation from Blancpain dated 2024. A full service costing over €4,000 was performed and documented. This provides the assurance that the watch requires no maintenance for the foreseeable future and confirms that all components are authentic.
Conclusion: Character, history, and a comprehensive service from the manufacturer. This is what makes a vintage watch a true joy to own.
