Highlight number 1:
The case is made of rose gold, which is a rarity. Rose gold cases only made up about 8% of the total production volume of Rolex Day-Dates.
The condition of the case is very good. It has been lightly polished from our specialist and shines with great proportions, wonderful sharp edges and a perfect matte finish.
Highlight numbers 2 and 3:
The dial used in this watch is an extremely rare variant. This is a so-called DOUBLE-DASH UNDERLINE dial.
If you look closely at the top lettering, you will notice that there is an underscore between Oyster Perpetual and Day-Date. This is absolutely rare, as Rolex only used this graphic representation for a very short period of time in the 60s to early 70s.
The underline refers to the cross line that is placed in the lower half of the dial below the Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. This cross line was intended to inform watchmakers and other personnel that, contrary to its marking with SWISS at 6 o’clock on the lower edge of the dial, this watch was not equipped with classic radium, but rather a new mixture with less radioactivity. The UNDERLINE here is positioned in the middle of the lower half of the dial, stands out and I have never seen it in this form on a Day-Date.
The condition of the dial is also very fine. It has the typical signs of aging for dials from that time, but is an absolute eye-catcher on the wrist.
Highlight number 4:
The pointer set is another special feature. These are so-called Dauphine hands, which are immediately recognizable by their unique style. Super rare for day dates. We deliberately left the hands in their original condition because they spread a wonderful vintage charm.
Highlight number 5:
The bezel. It is the first fluted bezel shape designed and installed by Rolex for the Day-Date. The tips are much more frequent and the entire shape of the bezel appears much more delicate. This bezel is extremely rare to find on 1803 references, as it has only been installed until the early 1960s.
We gave this rose gold beauty a new Molequin strap in green, as well as a beautiful vintage pin buckle. In my opinion a perfect color combination.
Conclusion: A watch that has a total of FIVE great highlights. Unique? I would say yes. Definitely a MUST for every Day-Date collector.
