Description: Great Vintage Day-Date with so called BUCKLEY dial in its rarest color (gray)
The case is in very good condition. Probably minimally polished in the past, it shows full lugs and great proportions. The edges are wonderfully sharp and the matte finish on the top of the case is perfect. There are only minor signs of wear and the lower left lug shows a small chip, which is well covered by the leather strap.
An 1803 Day-Date can be recognized by the distance between the bezel and the edges of the case. There has to be a fair amount of space here so that the watch isn’t polished to death. If you check the pictures, you will notice that the distances have been perfectly preserved and you really have a fine case in front of you.
The bezel is wonderfully sharp with clear teeth and minor signs of wear.
The dial is a very rare gray so-called BUCKLEY dial. These dials are named after John Buckley, an American collector and dealer whose love of these dials is legendary. The condition of the dial is excellent. The surface is completely intact and there are no scratches, chips or anything like that. You can also tell from the slightly oxidized crown that this watch has not been worn much.
As you might have already guessed from the pictures, the dial has been relumed during a service and covered with Superluminova. That’s a shame, but it doesn’t really detract from the beauty and was quite common back then. At Rolex Cologne you could choose whether to buy a new dial for 300 marks or have the lume replaced for 30 marks.
The set of hands is also in wonderful condition with Superluminova.
The watch comes on a new leather strap (non Rolex) and with a vintage pin buckle (gold plated).
Conclusion: Super cool Buckley Day-Date. Thanks to the cool color not as strict as other buckleys and the relume we have generously included in the price already. So the things are just extremely fun and enjoyable.
