A wonderful “SWISS ONLY” GMT-Master II, with box, original papers, and a Wempe service valid until 2026.
The case has been polished during a comprehensive Wempe/Rolex service and is in wonderful condition. It features full lugs, razor-sharp edges and a perfect matte finish on the top of the case. The watch has been worn only a few times since the service, showing nothing more than the lightest micro-scratches.
The dial is special; it is a so-called “SWISS ONLY” dial. In 1998, Rolex switched its lume material production from tritium to Super-LumiNova. During this transition—and for a brief period of approximately two years (1998–2000)—dials with only the “SWISS” imprint were used. From 2000 onwards it changed to the familiar “SWISS MADE.”
Since the word “MADE” is absent here, it is referred to as “SWISS ONLY.”
As this watch dates back to 1999, it fits perfectly within that specific timeframe; both the dial and the watch are 100% original and have been delivered like that.
Just as the case, the bezel is in excellent condition and the “Coke” inlay is an original, period-correct example featuring bold print and beautiful serifs. There is a small chip at the 4 o’clock position, which is completely unnoticeable when worn on the wrist.
This cool “SWISS ONLY” GMT comes with box and papers. It has originally been sold on November 10, 1999, by rolex authorized dealer Chow Tai Fook in Hong Kong (LC 888).
In addition to the original papers, the new owner will receive the Wempe service invoice, along with the NFC service card and service pouch. The service was performed in late February 2026 at a total cost of €970.00.
Just as the watch itself, the 78790 Oyster bracelet is in excellent condition, showing only minimal signs of wear and no stretch. It has been lightly polished and with clasp code X9 (September 1999), it is the original bracelet for the watch.
Conclusion: A wonderful GMT II with a rare dial and a recent service.
