Description: A superb early 1016 Explorer with the rarest dial variant, the MKII dial.

The case is in very good condition. While it has been polished at some point, it still displays nice proportions, sharp edges, and a very good matte finish. Light signs of wear are present, but there are no deep scratches, dents, or anything like that.

The highlight of this watch is definitely the dial. This is the MK2 variant, which was only used in serial numbers between 2 and 2.3 million, meaning it was in use for less than a year. This makes it the rarest matte dial ever used by Rolex. The MK2 dial is particularly recognizable by the serifs of the Rolex “E.” These are very prominent and distinctive.

The dial is in truly wonderful condition. No damage, crisp printing, and the tritium lume has developed a creamy, slightly vanilla-colored patina. This adds further character to the dial and makes it absolutely stunning on the wrist.

The hands are original to both the watch and the dial and are also in fine condition with a patina that complements the dial perfectly.

The 7206 riveted Oyster bracelet is another highlight. It is in top condition, comes with the correct 80 end links, and, exceptionally for a 1968 watch, it is the original bracelet with clasp code 4/68 for fourth quarter of 1968.

Conclusion: Extremely rare, extremely beautiful. An Explorer that you won’t easily find again.
