Wonderful 1016 Explorer in collector’s set.
Man, a beautiful EX1 has become really rare these days. Where did all the good watches go? I’ve been looking for a great EX1 for more than two years now and I can finally offer this beauty again and the scope of delivery is absolutely terrific.
I’ve been lucky enough to be able to acquire this watch from a friend and collector from Bavaria. At that time, he was able to buy it from the family of the first owner from Kaiserslautern, who died in 2006.
Amazing watch and you will see, everything fits perfectly.
The case is in very good condition. It has been polished once and yes there is documentation on that too, showing full lugs, nice edges and a clean matt finish on the top of the case. Signs of wear are present to a small extent, but nothing that would detract from the look.
The MK5 Tritium dial is in wonderful condition. It shows no damage, clear print and the lume has taken on a strong patina. MK5 dials were used in a serial number range from 6.6 million to early R series and therefore this is the original dial for the watch.
Just as the dial, the tritium hands are in top condition and the color matches the dial perfectly.
In addition to the quality of the watch itself, the scope of delivery is really awesome.
The watch has been sold on August 13, 1982 by rolex authorized dealer Bucherer in Davos (Switzerland). The original warranty certificate is handwritten with all the watch data and stock number from Bucherer. This stock number can also be found on the original PURCHASE INVOICE dated 08/13/1982! Price at that time CHF 990.00.
Over the next few years this gem was cherished and cared for and the first owner gave it its first and only service in 1985 at Lembach in Kaiserslautern, where the movement has gotten a revision, the watch has been cleaned and the glas polished for 340DM. Here, too, the first owner is entered by name!
After that, the watch has only been worn for a short time and disappeared in the safe for many years.
In addition to the extensive papers, the original pencil case, translation and the Rolex box are part of the scope of delivery.
The 78360 Oyster bracelet is in fine condition. It matches the watch perfectly in terms of quality and is the original bracelet to the watch with clasp code G for 1982. The lugs are also the original 580s as delivered.
Conclusion: The 1016 is an icon in the Rolex portfolio. Clear, puristic, toolwatch.
