Description: Beautiful 18038 Day-Date featuring a “tropical” silver/gold dial.
The case is in excellent condition. Likely polished for the first time during a Rolex service in 2022, it retains full lugs, beautifully sharp edges and a nice matte finish on the top of the case. The watch shows light, superficial signs of wear and minimal sleeve polish. None of it distracts from the watch’s wonderful vintage charm.
The dial is truly special. While it is a service dial, its coloring sets it apart; a close look at the photos reveals that the dial shifts between silver and gold depending on the light—an effect of remarkable intensity that lends the watch a unique charme. The dial is in perfect condition, with all lume dots intact.
The hands are also service hands in perfect condition.
This fantastic, intriguing Day-Date comes with a wonderful scope of delivery. It has originally been sold on December 9, 1985, by rolex authorized dealer Kung Brothers Watch Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong (Country Code 888).
The full set includes the original box, the original wallet and both English booklets with the correct print dates. Also included are service records from Juwelier Lücker (a Rolex concessionaire) and the purchase invoice for an extra link.
The 8385 President bracelet is in fine condition, showing light stretch and a fully intact crown on the clasp. It comes with all 24 links and the clasp code J10 (October 1985) confirms it is the original bracelet for the watch.
Conclusion: A fantastic Day-Date with an interesting dial. Not a “safe queen” but a clean, honest watch that’s easy to love.
