Outstanding Day-Date in perfect condition with a super rare aventurine pinball dial.
The case is superb. Absolutely unpolished, with perfect proportions, razor-sharp edges and an equally perfect matte finish on the top of the case. The great quality is further confirmed by the intact caseback sticker.
Besides the case, the dial is another highlight. It’s an extremely rare aventurine dial with so-called pinball indices. They’re called “pinball” because the round, diamond-set indices resemble the inner workings of a pinball machine. We collectors are quite creative when it comes to naming things ;-).
Stone dials are wonderful. They thrive on their uniqueness and the irregularities of the stone, which make them so special. The aventurine used here is a beautiful dark blue with lovely crystalline inclusions.
The condition—and this is yet another highlight—is perfect. No cracks, no damage, NOTHING. A quality that even an old hand like myself hasn’t often encountered.
The hands, naturally original without lume material, are equally wonderful.
The bezel is razor-sharp and the sapphire crystal is perfect.
This fantastic Day-Date comes from the far north and arrives with box and papers. It has been sold on June 20, 1988, by rolex authorized dealer Rob Engström in Stockholm (LC 267, Sweden).
The 8385 President bracelet is, like the watch itself, superb. Zero stretch, minimal signs of wear. Simply wonderful. It’s a bit short with 20 links, fitting a wrist circumference of approximately 18 cm, but additional links are easily found. The bracelet bears the clasp code M3 for March 1988, confirming it’s the original bracelet for the watch.
Conclusion: My passion for Day-Dates is well known by now. This dream watch would be perfect for my collection, but I don’t have the funds. So, I’ll let someone else enjoy it.
