Description: Beautiful early 6263 Daytona with a rare Sigma dial with tropical subdials and punched papers!
The case is in very good condition. Early 6263s had a different case shape than the later 6263s. The shape here is finer, with a different cut and case shape. As the pictures show, the lugs are very well proportioned, with nice edges and a very good matte finish. There are signs of wear, but no deep scratches, dents or anything like that.
The dial is a rare SIGMA variant.
Explanation: SIGMA refers to the Greek letter Sigma, which was added twice to the T SWISS T lettering at 6 o’clock. The background to this is that watches with precious metals on the dial were marked with this symbol. The indices of this watch are made of white gold.
As the macros of the dial beautifully show, the subdials have aged to a great dark brown. A beautiful tropical effect. The macros also show that the dial is in top condition, but shows light signs of aging. See the edge of the dial at 2 o’clock and a small scratch between 6 and 7 o’clock.
The hands are original to the watch and dial in fine vintage condition. The bezel is the rare MK1 variant. These can be recognized by the oval numbers and the bold print. Finding an MK1 in such good condition as this is a rarity!
In addition to the highlight dial, the scope of delivery is also great. This great tropical Sigma 6263 comes with box and papers and the papers are punched. This is absolutely rare for a hand-wound Daytona. The watch has been sold in 1975 by rolex authorized dealer Fulvio Gallo in Italy.
The Oyster bracelet is a later 78350 with 571 lugs. It shows minimal stretch and comes with 12 links.
Conclusion: vintage beauty. Tropical subdials, SIGMA, punched papers. Perfect for collectors.
