description: Great German 1803 Day-Date with a highly demanded black pie-pan dial in great condition.
The case is in very good condition. Polished once in the past, it still shows a lot of material, fine proportions and a very good matt finish on the top of the case. A 1803 Day-Date can be recognized qualitatively by the distances between the bezel and the edges of the case. There must be a good distance here so that the watch is not polished to death. If you check the pictures, you will notice that the distances have been perfectly preserved and that it‘s really a great case.
There are signs of wear and there is also a bit of shirt polish, as well as a small chip on the inside of the lower left lug, but overall a watch that has been worn but treated with great care. I’m 37 and not nearly as good looking as this almost 50 year old beauty.
The dial is a very rare matt black pie pan dial. Pie-pan because the ends of the dial flatten towards the bottom, much like an upside-down pie pan. The dial is in top condition, with clear gold print, perfectly preserved minute track and no damage.
As you might have guessed from the pictures, the dial has been relumed in the course of a service and covered with Superluminova. That’s a pity, but doesn’t really detract from the beauty.
The bezel is still wonderfully sharp with clear teeth and the original “old” plexiglas shows only minor signs of wear.
This cool Day-Date delights its new owner as a German full set. It has been sold by rolex authorized dealer and juweler Christ in December 1976 and in addition to the box and old seal, the original Christ guarantee booklet from 1976 has been preserved. All data of the watch are summarized here again, which makes the set particularly beautiful.
The original Rolex leather strap with proof of purchase by Rene Kern is well worn and has therefore been replaced by us with a beautiful brand new leather strap by Hirsch from Austria. Furthermore, the buckle is original Rolex in the gold-plated version.
Conclusion: Not a perfect beauty, but a watch that gives you a lot of joy and looks simply wonderful due to the black/gold contrast.
