The case is unpolished and in great condition. It is characterized by full lugs, the slightly wider edges that are typical for an A series and a very good matt finish on the top of the case. There are minor signs of wear, but no deep scratches, dents or anything like that. The dial is special. It is a so-called SWISS ONLY dial. In 1998, Rolex switched the production of lume from tritium to superluminova. During this change and only for a short period of about 2 years (1998 to 2000), dials with the SWISS imprint were used. From 2000 this has been changed to the well-known SWISS MADE. Since the MADE is missing here, it is called SWISS ONLY. As this watch is from 1999, it fits perfectly into the period mentioned. Therefore the dial and watch are 100% original and delivered as such. The bezel, just as the case, is top and the COKE inlay is an original and period-correct inlay with bold print and the wonderful serifs. It has a small scratch at 4 o’clock, but it doesn’t bother on the wrist in any way.
This cool SWISS ONLY GMT comes with box and papers. It has been sold on November 10, 1999 by rolex authorized dealer Chow Tai Fook in Hong Kong (LC 888).
The 78790 Oyster bracelet is great, just as the watch, with no significant signs of wear and almost no stretch. It has been slightly polished and with clasp code X9 for September 1999 it is the original bracelet for the watch. Conclusion: Great GMT II with that extra twist.
