One of the last Milgauss 1019 watches ever made, imported directly from Finland by the family of the original owner.
The case is in worn but unpolished condition. As the pictures show and as the original owner’s son has confirmed, his father wore this watch frequently, alternating it with a Submariner, which remains in the family. Therefore, the watch shows light signs of wear on all components. We have left it exactly as it is, as it simply looks so beautifully authentic and harmonious.
The silver/gray Milgauss dial is an absolute highlight of this watch. Why? Because it is in perfect condition. Many of these dials develop damage at the edge over the years, which is often visible as a brown streak where the dial disappears under the rehaut. This dial has none of that. In addition, the lume dots have a truly magnificent and even patina, beautifully showcased by the silver/gray dial.
The hands are equally wonderful. Perfect condition and with a lume material that perfectly complements the dial. The last two series of the Milgauss 1019, specifically the R and L series, already came with the slightly more modern hands without the crease in the middle, as seen here. Therefore, they are absolutely correct and original to the watch.
Did you know that Datejust, hand-wound Daytonas, and also Milgauss models sometimes used a different lume material than the Submariner and GMT? Because the lume material was applied to very small areas on these models (Datejust, hand-wound Daytonas, Milgauss), a classic tritium mixture wouldn’t have lasted long. Therefore, a significantly higher zinc sulfide amount was used, which causes these dials to glow under strong light or UV. The glow is clear, as you can see in the specially taken image, but zinc sulfide can’t absorb much energy, so it wears off quickly and disappears after 45-60 seconds at the most.
As mentioned previously, we were able to acquire this fantastic vintage gem directly from the original owner’s family in Finland. Therefore, I can guarantee that the box, including the 1019 sticker, as well as all booklets/descriptions, were originally sold with the watch. Unfortunately, the family can no longer find the original certificate. Perhaps it will turn up later. If it does, I have been promised a free copy and will gladly pass it on to the new owner.
The bracelet is a fine 78360 Oyster bracelet with light stretch and the similar signs of wear as the case. Why the same signs of wear? Well, because an absolutely original watch deserves its original bracelet. With clasp code L8 for August 1987 and our knowledge of its origin, we can guarantee that.
Conclusion: A Milgauss 1019 with a wonderful presence. Fresh on the market and ready to continue its story.
