Outstanding 18038 “thick case” Day-Date, offered as a wonderful German “full set” and featuring a super-rare dial.<\/p>\n

The case is in exceptional condition. This is the “thick case” variant\u2014a version Rolex used for only a brief period in the late 70s and early 80s\u2014characterized, as the name suggests, by a noticeably thicker case profile. This gives the watch added presence on the wrist and makes it appear a millimeter or two larger.<\/p>\n

As mentioned, the condition is simply perfect. It features an absolutely unpolished case with razor-sharp edges and a flawless matte finish. Add in some light signs of wear, and you have a true vintage treasure.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of this watch is the dial: a super-rare “Double Swiss” dial. Rolex took a dial originally printed with the classic “T Swiss T” print, updated it by adding the “T Swiss Made T” print, and then installed it\u2014nothing went to waste back then! These dials were produced only in 1979\/80, making them among the rarest Day-Date dials in existence. Beyond the “Double Swiss” print, the black lacquer indexes are noteworthy as well\u2014another unique characteristic of this rare dial type. Some collectors refer to them as “Onyx index dials,” but the material is black lacquer, not onyx.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, the hands are perfect with matching patina, the bezel is as sharp as the day it left the factory, and the sapphire crystal is flawless.<\/p>\n

A perfect watch is made even more desirable when accompanied by a full set. This beauty has originally been sold on January 4, 1980, by rolex authorized dealer Axel Sedlatzek in Berlin (Country Code 100). The set is truly perfect, including both booklets\u2014complete with the Sedlatzek dealer sticker<\/p>\n

The 8385 President bracelet is in equally perfect condition. Unpolished, showing light signs of wear, no stretch and 24 links. Of course it features the correct clasp code “D” for 1979.<\/p>\n
